Hiring sound and lighting equipment turns an ordinary London flat, house, hall or garden into a proper birthday celebration. London Speaker Hire provides the speakers, lighting, karaoke and silent disco gear. You provide the playlist, the guests and the occasion.
Choose your sound setup, connect your music, pick lighting and add extras like karaoke or a silent disco. For younger guests, explore our dedicated children’s party equipment options.
The right equipment depends on where your party is, how the room is laid out and whether you want background music for conversation or a proper dance floor later in the night.
Living rooms, kitchen-diners and smaller spaces. Active speakers are a popular choice for birthday parties because they don’t need a separate amplifier, so the setup is straightforward and compact.
Hired halls, community centres and studios. If the space has an unusual shape (long and narrow, L-shaped or split across a bar area), share a photo or quick sketch when you enquire and we’ll suggest a practical layout.
Gardens, courtyards and terraces. Sound escapes quickly outdoors, so placing speakers under a gazebo or canopy and directing them away from neighbours helps keep things sociable. Equipment must stay sheltered from rain. We can help balance indoor and outdoor speaker positions so the party feels connected between spaces.
Compare our Silver Party and QSC speaker packages below, then tell us which extras you would like to add.
Sound systems need to be calculated based on room size and guest count, so tell us about your venue when you get in touch.
Tell us which phone, tablet or laptop you plan to use so we can confirm the connection and leads for your hire. Most people run a streaming playlist: something relaxed for the early evening, building to louder tracks once friends hit the dance floor. A downloaded backup playlist can help if your internet connection drops.
If someone in your group enjoys mixing, we hire Pioneer XDJ-XZ and RX3 all-in-one DJ units as well as separate Pioneer CDJs with a DJM mixer for more traditional DJ sets. These are equipment hire options for your own DJ or someone in your group to operate; a DJ is not automatically included.
Switching off the main lights and adding a couple of event fixtures changes photos, mood and energy instantly. Disco lighting enhances the atmosphere without needing a complicated production, even in a compact London room.
All-in-one lighting bars. The Chauvet GigBAR 2 and GigBAR Move combine several lighting effects on one bar. The ADJ Fusion FX Bar 5 is a more compact option that fits along a wall or on a stand at the edge of the room, adding patterns and colour when space is tight. Professional lighting can create dynamic visual effects even in a standard lounge. Lighting packages should match the tone of the party: gentle colour early on, more movement once the dancing starts.
Bubble and haze effects. The Chauvet BubbleHaze and BubbleHaze X2 Q6 add bubbles and a light atmospheric haze that picks up beams and colours beautifully. The Geyser P7 produces short bursts of illuminated effect. These need venue permission before booking. Check whether the venue permits smoke effects or moving lights, and let us know about ceiling height, floor surfaces and proximity to smoke or heat alarms. We never advise disabling alarms, and these effects are not suitable for every venue, every guest or every age group. We’ll discuss placement, sensitivities and supervision with you before including them in a hire.
Some lighting equipment includes flashing or laser-style effects. We help you select options that suit your group and space rather than assuming every effect works for every occasion.

Karaoke. A karaoke machine connects into your main speaker system with microphones and a screen, turning any birthday into a karaoke party. Karaoke hire is suitable for milestone celebrations, family gatherings or any night where singing is the entertainment, with no performer required. Karaoke packages can include professional microphones and speakers, and we discuss song libraries and screen options at enquiry stage.
Silent disco. Our Silent Disco 20-person headset packages let guests choose between music channels on wireless headphones while the room stays relatively quiet, a popular choice for London flats and terraces where neighbours are close. You can run playlists or a DJ feed into the transmitters. A silent disco gives different music choices rather than a guarantee of no noise, since guests still chat and sing along, but it takes the edge off late-night volume concerns. Check your venue’s noise restrictions and finish time before booking.
Garden birthday parties need a plan for weather protection, suitable power and cable routes. Tell us about the space and your venue’s requirements before booking.
Ask us about projector and inflatable-screen options for a birthday film party or slideshow. We will confirm the screen, projector, space and site suitability before quoting a cinema setup.
For a younger birthday group, explore karaoke, silent disco, colourful lighting and effects chosen around their interests, the space and your guests. Get in touch to discuss your children’s party.
Cost depends on the products you choose, hire duration and delivery logistics. Add your chosen equipment to your quote, then submit it for accurate pricing. If you need help choosing equipment, contact us to discuss your plans.
Yes. Most birthday parties run from a phone or laptop plugged directly into the speakers. Tell us your device so we can confirm the leads. DJ equipment is an optional addition if someone wants to mix live.
Start by telling us about the space (flat, house, hall or garden), along with a rough idea of your evening’s programme. The team will suggest the right speaker configuration once they understand your layout and whether you want background music or a full dance floor with bass.
Ask about adding karaoke or silent disco to your celebration. We will confirm suitable equipment, connections and transport options. Mention either when you enquire and we’ll confirm availability for your date.
Only with your venue’s explicit permission. Check with your hall manager or landlord first, and tell us about any restrictions, alarm positions, floor surfaces and guest sensitivities. We never advise disabling alarms and will help you decide whether effects are appropriate for your space.
Share your event date, postcode, venue type, any steps or lift access, available power points, your start and finish times, and what you’re planning: conversation, dancing, karaoke, silent disco. The more we know, the more practical our suggestions.
Tell us your date, location and what kind of night you have in mind. We’ll suggest a practical combination of speakers, lighting, karaoke or silent disco to suit your celebration, with no effort wasted on equipment that doesn’t fit your room or your plans.
